International Prize for Digital Art and Photography - Chianciano Terme, Italy

Art Competitions
International Prize for Digital Art and Photography
Closing Date Thursday, the 10th of June, 2010
In this splendid corner of the Tuscan countryside, the masters of the past give way to emerging talents of digital arts and photography, raising them to international attention. More than 100 artists will participate in this prestigious Award for Digital and Photographic Art, which will be housed in the Art Museum of Chianciano Terme. The exhibition is curated by experts who have staged exhibitions in museums such as the Victoria and Albert, the largest museum in the world.
As well as the chance to compete for numerous prizes, the artists will have the opportunity to interact, learn and test their mettle in workshops that are organized to take place during the award week, in parallel with the exhibition. Displayed on three of the four floors, the eclectic exhibition will show important works sourced from around the world. Formative seminars will be held in the conference room by Lonnie Schlein, Chris Warde- Jones, Gerard Bruneau, Marcello Mencarini and Zotlan Nagy, freelancers and collaborators with the world's most important international magazines and newspapers, focusing on the interaction of the various angles of the photographic profession. A unique occasion to learn from the experience and dedication of professionals that collaborate with New York Times, Vanity Fair, Time Magazine, Forbes, The Times, Washington Post, Corriere della Sera, L'Espresso, Le Monde, Le Figaro, Die Zeit, Der Spiegel, and Stern.
Just two examples suffice to understand the calibre of the jury: Lonnie, photographic editor of the NewYork Times for over 30 years, was responsible for the selection of images during the Clinton and Bush administrations, as well as having directed all first page photographs for the New York Times after the attack on the Twin Towers; Marcello created a world first photo reportage for Nokia and Omnitel using exclusively a mobile phone.
The Museum of Art proposes to celebrate the passion for photography and the various artistic expressions of the digital age. A century has past since the fascinating reflections of Walter Benjamin, in this era of technical developement for reproduction of artistic works, photography has demonstrated its capacity to safeguard its own authenticity, to communicate through form and content provoking emotion.
Digital art is following a similar path, and among the multiplicity of media of which we come in constant contact, digital art has the task of opening up new perspectives, rendering us participants in alternative worlds. An encounter among the arts, as well as media forms, gives us a complete vision of universal language, capturing not only objects and forms, but also feelings and emotions.
