Profile - Kaffe FassettBorn in San Francisco, Kaffe Fassett won a scholarship to study painting at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and subsequently had a number of one man shows in the USA. In 1964 he moved to London where he continued to exhibit and to publish his drawings in a variety of books and magazines including Vogue, The Times and House and Garden.In 1969 on a fabric buying trip to Scotland with designer Bill Gigg, he came across a range of beautiful hand dyed yarns and discovered knitting. Soon he had formed his own hand and machine knitting company with weaver Richard Wormersley and was designing knitwear for Bill Gibb, Missori and Sportswhirl NY amongst others. His customers now include many of the world's rich and famous. Needlework followed to become another passion and his kits are in great demand. Kaffe Fassett's knitwear is included in many important costume and textile collections throughout the world and his designs have been widely commissioned and exhibited. |
