The Celts dominated Mid and Western Europe for a thousand years from pre-Christian times. The earliest surviving examples of Celtic knots are mostly bible decorations and Christian monuments. The designs lend themselves to many crafts such as goldwork jewelry, wooden and stone carvings.
This celtic cross stitch design uses only four gold shades to dramatic effect. The example is shown on a dark green background but another shade could be chosen to suit other furnishings. It co-ordinates with the celtic knot curtain tiebacks. Only full stitches are used and a dark green backstitch added as an outline to the shapes. The stitch count is 174 by 174.
The large scale coloured charts are on six A4 pages and gives the user the option of using either Anchor, DMC or Madeira stranded cottons.
A stylised version of the national flower of Scotland.
This flower design was inspired by a visit to the Horta House Museum in Brussels. It was designed for the seat of a dining room chair but would also suit cushions or make an attractive picture. There are a large number of three quarter stitches involved but the geometric shapes make the design easier to work than it would at first appear.
The pattern uses only three shades of stranded cottons in tones of the same colour over 200 by 135 stitches. The large scale colour charts are on two A4 sheets with a choice of colourways, the violet as illustrated or browns.
This design features several of Beatrix Potter's favouite characters and would make an attractive hanging for a nursery. The seven little animal designs could also be used separately - Tom Kitten, Flopsy Bunnies, Jemima Puddleduck, Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tiggy Winkle, Jeremy Fisher and Benjamin Bunny.
The detail illustration shows three of the small characters with the flowers and tendrils linking the pictures and on the opposite side the height maked in inches which starts at 1 foot 6 inches and ends at five foot two inches.
There are whole cross stitches, partial cross stitches and backstitch in this chart.
The design must be worked on 14 count fabric to come out to the imperial scale of the original.
This booklet contains the chart over 7 A4 pages. A conversion chart is included to convert from the original DMC shades to Anchor or Madeira stranded cottons if required.
We also stock a Permin kit of a similar Beatrix Potter height chart which is on a metric scale and with the child's details added. - see Kit below.
