Autumn, the Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, as John Keats eloquently put it, has inspired artists and designers from time immemorial. Lanarte's new collection of 18 innovative designs turned into spectacular embroidery kits is inspirational.
Autumn 2008 features a variety of styles to add to Lanarte's burgeoniong portfolio, the two major pieces in this collection are Beauty of Asia and Red Roses on Black.
The Beijing Olympics have piqued cultural interest in the far east and Lanarte have responded with their centrepiece Beauty of Asia (35051/35051A) - a beautiful girl in oriental attire peeking from behind a decorated fan. A spectacular composition and sumptuous colouring make this a centrepiece picture.
Red Roses on Black (35049/35049A) shows a traditional subject set against a contemporary background.
Deep reds and golds impart the warmth that emanates from this timeless image.
The fabric that is supplied with the kit has an individually printed background so your own version will be unique.
Most items are available in evenweave or Aida and some have the background subtly printed on the fabric.
From sulphur crested cockatoos playing amongst blossomy boughs to a family of lions to a wistful Pierrot with a red rose, there is something in Lanarte's Autumn 2008 collection to suit all tastes and budgets.

Christmas is that time of year when we get together with family and friends and make contact again with «auld acquaintances». Both Christians and non-Christians alike enjoy this traditional midwinter* festival. The pudding is stirred, the goose is cooked, the tree is decorated - or trimmed - and all the stops are pulled out.
It's the time to put away the 9 to 5 and throw yourself into the spirit of the season.
Your christmas table is your way to show your pleasure in having your family and friends around you. Add to the warmth and interest of your table by using bold colours and interesting patterns to make a stunning centrepiece to christmas dinner.
Create a focal point.
Our table covers and runners are designed with a space at the centre for you to be creative and individual with your centrepiece. Christmas candles, fir branches, pine cones, holly, mistletoe - all the things associated with christmas can be used to make a centerpiece that is uniquely yours.
Christmas is a lot more fun if you're not running around at the last minute and so we have recently added a collection of ready made Christmas table covers, table runners and table toppers for those of you who are hard-pressed or short of time.
They are a little different from what you'll find in the shops and will help to make your Christmas table look extra special and unique!
All of these table covers and runners are from the premier German design house Rico-Design and the quality is, as we have come to expect from German makers, exceptional. The ready mades are expertly finished by professional stitchers.
* Christmas occurs just after midsummer in the Southern Hemisphere so we apologise for our 'northism'!
efore cross stitch techniques and fabrics like Aida were invented, designs were stitched on canvas or even hand woven on a loom.
Strictly speaking, the word Tapestry refers to designs that are woven and Needlepoint means those that are stitched on an evenweave canvas, but the terms are used interchangeably nowadays. The most famous tapestry of all, the Bayeux Tapestry - depicting events leading to the battle of Hastings in 1066 - isn't strictly a Tapestry but is an embroidery using stem stitch for outlining and couching stitch for filled areas.
Because of its origins in weaving, Tapestry or Needlepoint work usually covers the entire fabric and this allows rich and interesting backgrounds in the finished picture. The resulting works are often traditional in style and this type of craft has been practised for centuries in Europe and North America.
From Rico Design of Germany comes a range of quality needlepoint pre-printed (stamped) canvas kits that are easy to use and very competitively priced.
All of these kits have the pattern printed on double count canvas and include quality wools, a needle and instructions. Some of them come complete with frame so you don't have to do any more searching!
With finished sizes ranging from 4 by 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) to a substantial 24 x 17 inches (60 x 43 cm) there are plenty to choose from and you can choose to create a little gem or a grand masterpiece in this noble craft.
Sometimes you get the happy news that a member of your family or a close friend is expecting a new baby. It's always a time for anticipation and excitement - a time both to enjoy your hobby and to produce a special gift to delight the new parents.
Many stitchers opt for a cross stitch birth sampler or measurement chart, or perhaps an alphabet sampler from the enormous variety of birth sampler and birth record patterns available today.
And up till recently, there haven't been many other choices!
Now Rico Design of Germany have introduced a range of quality baby items complete with Aida panels which you can work easily and quickly:
Face towels, hand towels, hooded bath towels and bibs (with or without sleeves) in a range of colourways.
The towelling fabric is of top quality and the Aida bands are colour matched to it.
A range of full-colour pattern booklets complement these fabric items so you can choose the motifs to suit the new arrival.
The glossy booklets are printed in full colour and instructions are in 5 languages: English, German, French, Dutch and Italian. Full instructions and helpful tips are included in each pattern leaflet.
You can mix and match the towels and bibs with the pattern booklets to create a combination that's perfect for you.
No more worries about finding a suitable gift for baby - Rico Design offer a large range of options which are practical, easy and quick, and which will delight everyone.
