The map has geographical features - rivers, mountains, forests - and island names - Lewis, Harris, North and South Uist, Benbecula, Barra, Skye, Rum, Eigg, Coll, Tiree, Mull, Iona, Colonsay, Jura, Islay and Arran as well as Orkney, Shetland and Fair Isle. The main towns are marked - Stornoway, Portree, Ullapool, Mallaig, Fort William, Tobermory, Oban, Inverary, Kirkwall, Lerwick, John o' Groats, Wick, Dornoch, Elgin, Nairn, Inverness, Aberdeen, Stonehaven, Perth, Dundee, St. Andrews, Stirling, Glasgow, Brodick, Wigtown, Dumfries, Edinburgh, Peebles and Jedburgh.
In the body of the map are lots of little pictures of buildings castles, churches and houses and the border features the animals and plants, pastimes and produce of the country.
The chart is divided up into four A3 pages each with a section of the chart and details of the backstitch on that quarter. Stitches used are cross stitch, backstitch and half cross stitch. The pattern is worked in 24 shades of stranded cottons over 170 by 180 stitches.
