An alphabet of fruit and vegetables to be stitched as a sampler or individually as monograms.
Pamela Byrd Brunke designed this sampler which uses complete cross stitch only except for a few backstitched tendrils. Worked in three rows of six letters as show, the final square is made up with numbers 0 to 9, but a spacer chart of trowel and hand fork is included should you with to use a different number of rows. Some detail of the sampler is shown in the enlarged view.
The alphabet stands for :- Asparagus, Beet, Cauliflower, Damson Plum, Elderberry, Fig, Garlic, Horseradish, Irish Potato, Jalapeno Pepper, Kidney Beans, Leek, McIntosh Apple, Nectarine, Olive, Pepper, Table Queen Squash, Rhubarb, Strawberry, Tomato, Ugli Fruit, Vidalia Onion, Watermelon, Xtra Sweet Corn, Yam and Zucchini.
The chart is printed 10 stitches to two centimetres on an A3 and A4 page. The pattern is worked in whole cross stitch and backstitch using 22 shades of stranded cottons.
The stitch count for the large sampler is 250 by 82 (Estimate Fabric Size) and 26 by 26 (Estimate Fabric Size) for each motif. The model was stitched on 32 count Jobelan using DMC floss. We have suggested antique white Jobelan in our Materials List.
